SMA Cables & Adapters with Right-Angle Connector(s)

Types of right-angle SMA adapters

Chose from a comprehensive selection of in-series solid body and pigtail adapters with right-angled configuration:

  • Right angle SMA female to SMA male adapter:  This gender combination is suitable for a male SMA antenna or radio component and female SMA cables.
  • Right angle SMA male to SMA female adapter:  Use this adapter for SMA female antennas or components and male SMA cables.
  • Right angle SMA male to SMA male adapter:   Two SMA female components can be connected to each other via this adapter.
  • Right angle SMA female to SMA female adapter:   Two male SMA components can be connected to each other via this adapter.

Data Alliance uses only double-shielded, low-loss coaxial cable in our SMA cable assemblies.  LMR-100-equivalent is the coax type that we use with our shorter SMA right-angle cables.  In some of the longer versions, we use LMR-200-equivalent.

The SMA connector is a 50-Ohm sub-miniature radio frequency connector that is mated by screw-coupling. It is capable of supporting frequencies up to 18 GHz. These brass-bodied connectors produce a water and dustproof connection that is rated for over 500 mating cycles.

In-series SMA adapters are used to facilitate competent connections between SMA connectors and cables of the same gender. Their alternate name us gender changing adapters. In addition, right-angled SMA adapters can create a connection with a 90 degree bend, providing additional utility and protection to the mated connectors.

Right-angle SMA connector advantages

The introduction of a 90-degee angle into a radio frequency connection has the following physical benefits:

Compactness

A right-angle radio frequency connector can make a robust and competent connection in extremely tight spaces. Because the cables hang straight down, rather than projecting straight out of the connector, components can fit close to walls another structures.

Protection

Having cables that are attached to these adapters hang down can protect them from the bending and strain that can affect cables attached to a straight connector.

Durability

A reliable 90-degree angle adapter forms a mechanically and electrically competent and durable connection that have improved longevity and performance because of reduced strain on an attached cable.

Applications of SMA right-angle cables & adapters

SMA connectors have an operating frequency range of 0 to 18 GHz, SMA connectors are one of the most versatile radio frequency connectors. Their electrical performance is exemplary with excellent impedance matching. The right-angle geometry enhances the compactness of this subminiature connector that can be used for professional and consumer-facing applications.

Key applications of SMA right-angle cables and adapters include:

  • Cellular networking: GSM, CDMA, 4G/LTE, 5G
  • Wi-Fi
  • GPS
  • Ham radio
  • Satellite and radio astronomy
  • Testing and measurement
  • LNAs and other radio frequency power amplifiers
  • RF isolators
  • Radio communication boards
  • PCBs
