Antenna Dual-Band Directional Panel

Dual BandDirectional Antenna with RP-SMA (male) connector

• Suitable for 802.11a/b/g/n and 802.11ac
• Antenna with 66-degree horizontal beamwidth concentrates the radiation in one direction, to maximize signal strength. Mounts directly onto RP-SMA-female connector of radio or client device or optional magnetic antenna stand.
• The limited beamwidth reduces "signal noise" / interference from other WiFi networks and third-party wireless devices, resulting in much greater performance of the device connected to this antenna (especially as compared to omni-directional antennas, which pickup 360-degrees of signal noise.
• Bottom section of "right angle" version has articulating angle that can be adjusted to 90-degrees or other angle.

Directional, direct connect antenna tuned to perform on 2.4 & 5.8GHz networks. It is vertically polarized and suitable for many of today’s machine to machine and communication applications such as telemetry, remote monitoring and mesh networking applications.

RP-SMA Connector Characteristics and Details:

• RP SMA Connector Material Composition
• RP SMA Features and Key Information
• Mounts directly onto RP-SMA(female) connector of access point, bridge, USB WiFi adapter, or booster. See other magnetic bases that fit this antenna and have antenna cables with other types of connectors.
• Articulating (Bendable) Right Angle: This antenna can be angled up to 90 degrees (articulating right angle) or positioned straight. The articulating (bendable) right-angle isn’t weatherproof: Water can seep into the angled part of the antenna. Articulating right-angle antennas are therefore recommendable for indoor use or protected outdoors, i.e. under an eave. If you need a weatherproof dipole antenna, you should choose either a straight dipole or one with a fixed right angle. See our weatherproof antennas.

Provides improved signal; may require modification in some applications

Posted by Robert Enger on 29th Mar 2019

Installed four on Netgear Nighthawk X4S R7800.
Made measurable improvement in signal level in desired direction (5db or so compared to stock antennas). BUT...
1) The direction of the main beam of the antenna is not clearly indicated. I did verify that it has a preferred direction (single maximum-gain lobe), and that is coming out of the surface with the painted logo.
2) The antennas have two "joints" at the bottom. One is a 0-90 degree bending knee. Separately, there is a +/- 90-degree rotational coupling (relative to the knee joint). [The limit of +/- 90-degree is undoubtedly intended to protect the coaxial cable inside from being damaged by twisting!] The result is that it was impossible to face the primary beam of the two rear-mounted antenna in the desired direction when mounted on the R7800. Sitting the R7800 backwards on the table top would solve this issue. Instead, I modified the rotational coupling to remove the mechanical stop that limits rotation to +/-90. This allowed me to face the primary beam of the two rear-mounted antennas "forward" (so they shot over the top of the R7800 and into the center of the room).
Summary:
If the application benefits from use of a directional antenna, this is a reasonable, low-cost alternative to the expensive professional external antennas.
