Key applications of N-connectors, cables and adapters

The N connector is in widespread use because of its ruggedness and reliable performance. Here are some of the key applications of the N connector:

Outdoor antennas

N connectors provide a structurally secure connection that can support the long-term mounting of outdoor antennas. The nickel plating and silicone rubber gaskets make the N connector durable. Mount your external antenna using an N-female to N-female bulkhead adapter with the antenna attached at one end and the cable at the other.

Surge protection

N connectors are routinely used in lightning arrestors and surge protection devices (SPDs). Install these arrestors in line ahead of sensitive electronic equipment that you want to protect from a lightning strike or surge. N-connector coaxial cables can be used to connect lighting arrestors and gas discharge tubes that can instantly divert overvoltage and current that exceeds a certain threshold using a deliberate short-circuit to ground.

N connectors are used in cellular networking because of their high-voltage power handling and frequency limit that accommodates cellular frequencies. These microwave connectors can be used in 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE, and some 5G base stations and connect components that include antenna arrays, transceivers, digital signal processors, and inline surge protection.
