RP-SMA Female Version Options RP-SMA Elongated
The version of the RP-SMA female connector on the left has an embedded o-ring, together with a wider flange, for more secure protection against intrusion of water and/or dust and dirt. It is available for some cable versions on this page, and others by special order. The longer RP-SMA-female version (top in photo) has a 14.5mm threaded section. We offer two options of thickness of cable (both are double-shielded, with a black jacket): LMR-400 and LMR-200:

  • 400-series coaxial cable-type (equivalent to LMR-400) has much lower attenuation (signal loss) than 200-series. All the cables on this page that are 400-series coax have connectors that are nickel-plated brass (on the connector body) . Nickel-plated brass is the most corrosion-resistent plating available for antenna cable connectors.
  • 200-series coaxial ca ble-type (equivalent to LMR-200) has much lower attenuation (signal loss) than LMR-100 and RG58. All the cables on this page that are 200-series coax have connectors that aregold-plated brass.
  • In both cases of coax types, the cables are rated for outdoor use and are also suitable for indoor use.
  • Double-shielding of both 200-series and 400-series enables low signal loss. Both are flexible/easily bendable (200-series is more flexible/bendable). The double-shielding is a major factor in the higher quality of this cable, which translates into lower loss/better performance.

Coaxial Cable Types for Long RP-SMA Extension Cables:  LMR-200 and LMR-400

LMR-200 and LMR-400 are low loss coaxial cables, manufactured simply for the purpose of transmitting radio frequency signals in antenna cables. They are both are suited to a multitude of practical industrial uses including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and broadband internet networks.  

Before we delve into the detail of the product, let's define what a low loss coaxial cable is: The composition of a typical coaxial cable is as such:

  1. Copper clad-steel conductor - low impedance and high tensile strength conducting wire
  2. Dielectric PE foam - relatively minimal absorption of electrical charge
  3. Double shielding - both aluminium foil and braided copper for the blocking out of any environmental signal disturbance
  4. Outer Jacket - protective casing which can carry the properties of being UV stable, flame retardant which is ideal for both indoor and outdoor environments, from the day of installation for years to come.

The following is a simple head-to-head comparison between LMR-400 and LMR-200 low loss RF coaxial cables:

Temperature stability = both max. 85-degrees C / min. -40-degrees C, therefore they are suitable to work in extreme hot or cold environments. Bending radius =  a single bend of LMR-200 and LMR-400 have a radii of over 19 mm and under 25 mm respectively. Double bend is over 63 mm for LMR-200 and below 102 mm. Weight = in terms of weight, the LMR-200 at 0.06 kg/m, is just under half as heavy per m than LMR-400 being 0.102 kg/m. Neither cable have any need of a trailing cable, nor do they contain halogen in their material make up.

Attenuation

The following data quantifies the estimated loss of signal strength typically attributed to the LMR-200 and LMR-400:

At 900 MHz

  • LMR-200 = 0.09 dB/ft.
  • LMR-400 = 0.039 dB/ft.

At 2400 MHz

  • LMR-200 = 0.12 dB/ft.
  • LMR-400 = 0.066 dB/ft.

At 3500 MHz

  • LMR-200 = 0.21 dB/ft.
  • LMR-400 = 0.081 db/ft.

At 5800 MHz

  • LMR-200 = 0.264 dB/ft.
  • LMR-400 = 0.108 dB/ft.

Double shielding benefits

Both cables are double shielded, with aluminium foil (100%) and copper braiding (70%+) for maximum protection of signal from EMI/noise. This combination of shielding method makes for maximum attenuation of noise and annulment of interference.

RP-SMA Gender Determination: Key Points

  • RP-SMA gender is counter-intuitive.
  • The gender is referring to the pins inside-not the threads. RP-SMA male has threads on inside.
  • RP-SMA (reverse polarity) means that the pin and socket configuration is the opposite of what you would expect: RP-SMA female has a pin inside, and RP-SMA male has a socket inside.

    Great solution to a problem

    I needed to extend the range of a wire-free security camera, and felt the best solution was this extension cable. Worked like a charm. The only negative I had was on the product name... sounded like 2 slightly different-length cables. I expected, and received, only one cable per order, so had no surprise. I was unfamiliar with this type of cable, so perhaps the nomenclature is standard.

    The cable is very large . Outside is close to 3/8" .not easy to hide because of its size
